Shopping Small for the Holidays

Best places to shop small in OKC this holiday season

Can you believe it's only one week until Thanksgiving?! That means it's time to kick our holiday shopping into high gear! While the convenience of Amazon Prime delivery is tempting, this year more than ever, it is imperative that we support our small businesses. Each week leading up to the holidays, I'll be featuring small businesses that I personally use and love. Hopefully this will help you find everything you need to check off the people on your list too! Be sure to comment and let me know if there are any you would like to see featured!

Today's post is focusing on local sustainable clothing businesses. Fast fashion is devastating to the environment (second largest polluter of clean water in the world) and often puts garment workers in dangerous conditions for very little pay. I could write an entire blog post on all the negative aspects of fast fashion, but we'll just leave it at that for now! Shopping with the businesses in today's post not only supports small businesses but also helps the environment!

Clothes Mentor

Clothes Mentor is one of my most favorite places to shop because it is locally owned, promotes sustainable fashion, and has fantastic prices (check out my blog post from last year's personal shopper experience here ). Pretty much anything I own that is high-end designer is from there. It's a high end resale shop that specializes in name brand and designer pieces. I've purchased items there such as a Givenchy wool sweater for $20, a Burberry skirt for $22, a Rag & Bone leather jacket for $55, and more! You can also bring in your own items to sell to them for cash or store credit. Unsold inventory gets donated to The Hope Center in Edmond. They post tons of items on social media @cm.edmond and also have many items online at edmondok.clothesmentor.com that can be shipped or picked up. And if you're not sure what to buy for someone, just get them a gift card!

Library OKC

Know someone who likes to stay on the cutting edge of fashion but also wants to be environmentally responsible? Get them a gift subscription to Library OKC! Owned by two local badass business babes, Library OKC is a clothing rental service. Check out their inventory online or, if you're in OKC, go browse in store. They have a variety of subscription plans starting at just $14 a month. Give a gift subscription for one month, a few months, or the entire year! And get one for yourself while you're at it! Follow them on Instagram @libraryokc for even more fun and special sales.

Bad Granny's Bazaar

Bad Granny's is one of the OG coolest places to shop in all of OKC. It is a thrifter's paradise! Located in the Plaza District, they offer a huge selection of vintage and newer finds. You can get everything from clothing in all sizes to jewelry to knick knacks to household items. Follow their Instagram (@badgranny) and their vendors' Instagrams to see the latest info on restocks and sales. It's the best place to find some truly amazing one-of- a-kind gifts! And again, if you're not sure what to get, just grab a gift card!

Oak City Vintage

This fun new shop in Midtown is one that you have got to check out! They have amazing vintage clothes and housewares as well as hand-crafted jewelry and sweaters. You can shop in store or online with them, but even if you're going in person, you still need to check out their website at oakcityvintageokc.com! They have great articles about thrifting and how to care for vintage clothes. You can also score a gift card online!

I hope this gives you an idea of where to start your holiday shopping. Keep watching my Instagram for updates on new blog posts featuring even more small businesses over the next few weeks! Happy shopping, and wear your mask! Xoxo
